Rest your eyes: listen to AI answers instead of reading them
If long screen sessions tire your eyes, Auris lets you look away and listen. The Chrome extension reads ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity answers aloud as they stream, with keyboard shortcuts so you rarely need the screen at all. It helps with screen fatigue, migraines, and low vision, and keeps conversations on your device.
Getting started
- 1Add Auris to Chrome
Install from the Chrome Web Store and activate your license key.
- 2Ask, then look away
Every new answer is read aloud as it streams. You do not need to watch it appear.
- 3Control by keyboard
Alt+A reads the latest answer or selected text, Alt+P pauses, Alt+S skips a sentence, and Alt+X stops. On a Mac, Alt is the Option key.
Who this is for
- All-day AI users whose eyes are tired by the afternoon.
- People with migraines who want less screen time during a flare.
- People with low vision who can see the screen but find long text tiring to read.
If you are blind or use a screen reader such as VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS, your screen reader already reads AI chats. Auris has not yet been tested with screen readers, so we do not recommend it for that use today.
Small habits that help
- Lean back or look away while an answer is read, instead of following every word.
- Ask the AI for shorter answers, so less needs to be read on screen later.
- Use Alt+A to replay an answer rather than scrolling back through it.
Questions
Can Auris replace a screen reader?
No. Auris reads AI chat answers for people who can see the screen. It is not a screen reader and has not been tested with VoiceOver, NVDA, or JAWS.
Is this medical advice?
No. If you have ongoing eye pain or vision changes, see an eye care professional. Auris is simply a way to spend less time reading.
Can I use it with the keyboard only?
Mostly, yes. Shortcuts read, pause, skip, and stop. Setup and choosing a voice use the Auris menu.
Which voices does it use?
The text-to-speech voices built into your computer and Chrome, at speeds from 0.7x to 2x.
Is it private?
Yes. Auris reads the conversation already on your screen and speaks it with your device's own voices, inside your browser. Your conversation text never leaves your device. The only network call Auris makes is checking your license key with our payment provider.
How much does Auris cost?
Auris installs free from the Chrome Web Store, and reading aloud unlocks with a yearly license: $9.99/year at the founding price, with a 7-day money-back guarantee.
Hear your AI, out loud.
Auris reads ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity answers aloud the moment they start streaming. Your conversations never leave your device.
