How to make Gemini read its responses aloud automatically

Gemini's web app lets you play an individual response aloud. To hear every new response automatically, as it is being written, add the Auris extension to Chrome and open gemini.google.com. Auris speaks each answer sentence by sentence, skips code blocks, and keeps your conversation on your device.

Set it up in four steps

  1. 1
    Add Auris to Chrome

Install Auris from the Chrome Web Store, then activate the license key from your purchase email. It takes about a minute.

  2. 2
    Open Gemini

Go to gemini.google.com/ in Chrome. If the tab was already open, refresh it once so Auris can attach.

  3. 3
    Ask anything and listen

Auris starts reading the answer aloud as it streams, sentence by sentence. A small player appears in the corner so you can pause, skip, or stop.

  4. 4
    Control it from the keyboard

Alt+A reads the latest answer or selected text, Alt+P pauses, Alt+S skips a sentence, and Alt+X stops. On a Mac, Alt is the Option key.

Built-in listening vs automatic reading

Gemini's own listen option plays a response when you ask it to, one response at a time. That works well for the occasional answer.

If you want every answer spoken without clicking, for example while you cook or look away from the screen, Auris reads each new Gemini response automatically and starts while the answer is still appearing.

What Auris does on Gemini

  • Reads only the response body, not Gemini's headers or status text.
  • Starts with the first sentence instead of waiting for the full response.
  • Uses your device's voices, with speed from 0.7x to 2x.
  • Shares one player and one set of shortcuts across Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity.
